Sharon Burnett – Deputy Director

Mrs Sharon Burnett is the Deputy Director of the Overseas Examinations Commission, with responsibility for the administration of Examinations. She has over 19 years’ experience at the Senior Management level at the Commission and her department oversees examinations for approximately 80,000 candidates annually from the Secondary to the Post -Graduate Level. Prior to her current position, Mrs Burnett served as Assistant Director, with responsibility for Cambridge, London and professional examinations. She holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management from Birkbeck College at the University of London and a Master of Arts in English and a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) in Language & Literature, both from the University of the West Indies, Mona, as well as a Trained Teachers’ Certificate from the St Joseph’s Teachers’ College.

Before joining the OEC, Mrs Burnett served in the classroom, rising to Head of the Department of English at the St Catherine High School. She is fluent in Spanish and is active in Community Leadership as a Member of High Schools‘ Boards of Management; as a fonding member of the Portmore Chorale and in her church as a member of the choir; Sunday School Superintendent; Priest’s Warden and former Church Secretary.

She is married and lists her other interests as Event Planning and working as a Speech & Drama Adjudicator
