Senator Kavan Gayle

Senator Kavan A. Gayle, O.D

Senator Kavan A. Gayle, O.D. is a strategic and visionary leader, who has been at the helm of the Bustamante Industrial Trade Union, Jamaica’s largest and most prominent Trade Union, since November of 2007. His primary areas of focus includes conceptualizing and implementing the strategic direction of the Union, while providing the highest level of representation to workers within Jamaica’s Financial Sector. He began his Trade Union career in 1986, when he joined the BITU and rapidly moved through many positions in the Organization: from Research Officer, to Senior Negotiating Officer, then Assistant Island Supervisor, before being appointed Assistant General Secretary.

Senator Gayle also presently serves as an Executive Member of the Regional Committee of the Americas and a member of the Regional Management Committee of the Global Union affiliate, Union Network International, both regionally and internationally. He is a member of several Administrative Boards, including the Jamaica Productivity Centre, The Labour Advisory Committee, The Labour Reform Commission and is an executive of the Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions. He lists among his current focused objectives; improving and sustaining economic growth through Labour.
